New version of ONLYOFFICE Docs

In addition to the change of season, September brought us a new release of one of the most innovative open source office suites. Already we have available a new version of ONLYOFFICE DOCS. in this case the one with the number 7.2

Among the features of this new version are a plugin installer, improved support for forms, use of ligatures, use of OLE spreadsheets, live viewer, new themes for the interface and translation in more languages.

Add-on manager

This feature of the new version of ONLYOFFICE Docs hardly needs any explanation. Plugins allow you to add new features to the office suite, and the new manager allows you to more easily see what options are available and install and uninstall them.

The administrator is accessed from the menu Extensions-> Extension Manager.

live viewer

In this case, it is a function available to users with a corporate license for the server version. In read-only mode the modifications that other users have made are shown in real time to the document.

The viewer is accessed from Advanced Settings -> Collaboration -> Show changes from other users.

Better multi-language support

The new version of ONLYOFFICE DOCS brings support for ligatures. This makes it possible to write several symbols in one.

The new feature enables the office suite to support languages such as Sinhala or Bengali and support left-to-right writing systems such as N'Ko.

We can choose between 4 modalities of ligatures: standard, contextual, discretionary and historical. In addition, combined options are available.

This is set to Advanced Paragraph Settings -> Font -> OpenType Features.

New possibilities in the forms

New predefined fields for form creation include email address and phone number. Neither of them needs further explanation. With complex field we can customize a field that suits our needs.

Text fields can be assigned a required input format such as arbitrary mask (for phone numbers), digits, letters, or regular expression. It is also possible not to assign any formatting to it and allow the use of special symbols.

With the changes made to the label settings, those who work with the creation of forms in automatic mode will see their task simplified.

These options are reached (in text documents) from the tab Forms-> Available fields and Form configuration menu.

OLE spreadsheets

OLE is the English acronym for Object Linking and Embedding, or in our language embedding and linking objects. with OLE we can embed another document in our document in such a way that when that other document is modified, those modifications are reflected in the one we are creating.

From now on, when we work with spreadsheets using ONLYOFFICE Docs V7.2 we can insert them as OLE objects in slides, other spreadsheets and text documents.

And since we are talking about spreadsheets, we now have the following functions:

Generation of links for a range of data. This allows other people to easily access the portion of the spreadsheet they need to work with when a document is shared.
Changes between the rows and columns in the graphs.

Improvements in the user's interface

Dark mode fans are a small but intense minority and, ONLYOFFICE Docs developers decided to pamper us with one more option; Dark contrast. However, to improve integration with the operating system, the system can be made to switch between light or dark mode depending on the theme used on the computer.

This is set to View -> Interface Theme

Regarding the menu, now the Cut and Select All buttons are on the home tab.

Other improvements are:

Additional panel when the width of the browser window is reduced.
Editor settings have been added to the Updated View tab and can be accessed in View and Comment modes.)
Author List and Share have separate buttons.
Updated Navigation Pane renamed to Headers.
Hotkeys for special paste.
Renewed search bar with the possibility to configure the parameters.

Presentations

For the creation of presentations we have a series of advanced settings that make it easy to place shapes, tables, diagrams, and images within slides. It is also possible to set custom animation paths for each object.
