Today a new version has arrived for Raspbian, the operating system focused on Raspberry Pi computers, with many improvements and bug fixes.
Arriving just over two weeks after its last update released on April 18, Raspbian 2018-06-27 is now available and brings exciting news with it. Perhaps the most important feature of this version is the all-new setup wizard which will be displayed at the first start.
This will help newcomers to configure the Raspbian system to their liking without having to search through the various settings panels. The setup wizard will run automatically on the first system startup, allowing users to choose their country., language, time zone, set up a password profile, add a Wi-Fi network and even install available updates.
"One of the things that has not helped much regarding Raspbian is that when a new user starts the system for the first time they only see a desktop, not knowing for sure what to do next. With this new update, when Raspbian is started for the first time, a setup wizard will appear to help users configure the system.”Mentions Simón Long, Principal Software Engineer.
Another interesting change implementing in Raspbian 2018-06-27 is the launch of the new Recommended Software application, which works very similar to the App Store, allowing users to review, select and install various applications. The software application has a basic design and was created to keep the size of the distribution to a minimum and prevent users from filling up with bloatware.
This new edition of Raspbian also includes a new PDF viewer called qpdfView which works as native software replacing the previous Xpdf. The Chromium 65 browser with updated Rasperry Pi Foundation links and a new home page.
