It has been months since there was talk of Microsoft Edge Chromium, a new version of the browser present in Windows that will be based on the Google engine. Now it is available in beta version and what we can test at this time is very similar to Chromium, so much so that they have eliminated options such as drawing that are available in the normal version. It is currently available for Windows (as of 7) and for macOS, but it seems clear that it will soon arrive on Linux.
They recently mentioned that Edge Chromium would come to Linux "Eventually" and yesterday, a member of the Microsoft Edge developer team said that they are working on it. In fact, there is a survey (available here) for developers in which they ask things like what distributions they use or what browsers are usually used for in Linux.
Survey available to know how we would use Edge Chromium
We, the Microsoft Edge developer team, are developing requirements to bring Edge to Linux, and we need your help with some assumptions! If you are a developer who relies on Linux for development, testing, personal navigation, please take a second to fill out this survey!
Nothing is available yet for Linux, but if we combine what they said months ago with what they said yesterday, including the survey, it is clear that the time will come when the Chromium-based version of Edge will arrive, or rather, it will be available for use it on our computers. There are not a few Chromium-based browsers that are available to us, among which we have Opera or Vivaldi and practically any browser other than Firefox, which is why I personally doubt that the Chromium version of Edge will get a huge market share among Linux users.
