The development of a new official Ubuntu flavor with Unity is confirmed

The Ubuntu Community does not want to leave the Ubuntu desktop and it seems that Unity will still be with us in one way or another. Various developers and members of the Ubuntu Community are moving to create a new official Ubuntu flavor.

This new flavor would have Unity as the main desktop, which would be the continuation of the old versions of Ubuntu.

The most interesting thing about this news is that Canonical has given the go-ahead to this new official flavor and will let the flavor use the Ubuntu logo and branding, that is, it will be an official Ubuntu flavor. Also various leaders and developers from other official Ubuntu projects have volunteered to help create and maintain this official development.

At the moment, the community and the developers of this new official flavor are being organized and with this the development of this new official flavor will begin. So it seems that Ubuntu 18.04 will not have this new official flavor, but we will see it during next 2018.

Several names are already being considered for the new flavor, among these highlights the name of Ubuntu Unity Remix, a name that would continue with the rest of the developments of other official flavors. Do not forget that Ubuntu Bugdie started with the label "Remix", as well as Ubuntu Gnome or Ubuntu Netbook Remix.

Following Canonical's announcement of the abandonment of Unity, there are many forks that have been born around this desktop, but it seems that distributions that combine Ubuntu and Unity will not have the same enthusiasm, maybe it is because everyone is waiting for someone to release this flavor of Ubuntu.

I personally love Unity and possibly use this new official flavor, since I don't quite like the new version of Gnome. But while this official flavor arrives, I stick with Ubuntu MATE, an official flavor that not only allows me to use the old Gnome but I can also put the old Unity look. Something practical even if it doesn't seem like it.
