Just over two years ago now, in the summer of 2020, it was confirmed that Linux was going to stop using terms like "slave" or "blacklist". The goal was to use inclusive language, something that sometimes becomes absurd, such as when cosmetic companies stop using the word "bleach", in case it offends someone. That was news because Linux is not exactly a tiny project, but already then we asked ourselves the question: «How will the rest of us have to speak to be correct, not criticized or crucified?«.
Personally, I have known about the existence of Linux since 2002. It was then when the first person to talk to me about, I think, Mandrake told me something like that about a program getting hung up and you can't do anything with it in Windows does not happen in Linux, because in Linux you could "kill" the programs. Even to this day, if Kodi decides it doesn't want to close on my Ubuntu, I go to System Monitor and "kill" it. This word could also have its days numbered, if it continues with the path that the Bottles developers have set.
Bottles stops using "kill" because it is violent language
GNOME publishes weekly articles in TWIG (This Week In GNOME, Esta Semana En GNOME in Spanish), and in your post yesterday they told us about a new version of Bottles. Among its news, we can read:
[…]”kill” was renamed to “force stop” to avoid the use of violent terms[…]
Reading it, one can only think that we are reaching a point where what we saw in Demolition Man, which made us laugh, will become reality. For those who don't know the movie, and although I think we've made reference to it at times in articles like this, it was forbidden to say curse words, even salt was illegal because it was bad for your health, not to mention that physical sex was totally ruled out. In their intention to eliminate everything that was considered bad, they created a society in which the good was the only thing that existed and was expected, making everyone useless and incapable of solving any real problem. It is what has overprotection.
It may sound absurd, but it is that one thinks "From now on we will have to force the stop of flies and mosquitoes?". In the end, everyone is free to use the language they want, but I only think that we have been passing each other for a long time. And so that this does not remain like this, in a serious article (in fact, I am always joking), we will leave it at that, in which everyone does what they want, but be careful, because we will see what the next generation is like if the current one is as defined in This Video:
Well, we don't even talk about executing a command anymore, right? :)
You forgot to say that EVERYONE must forcibly abide by those absurd rules… hahahaha
Greetings and good article!
I don't have much to add, just that I agree with what is described in the article.
Very true, these generations are becoming more delicate and fragile every day, everything offends or scares them!
We are heading to George Orwell's "1984" dystopia. Too bad there are those who think that evil is eliminated by eliminating the words that allude to it.
Hello, I completely agree, beyond the fact that you consider your note "half joking" tolerance of this inclusion, in a forced way, is making us stupid, and is part of the plans of governments and their lobbyists to break us, immobilize us and become dependent subjects of the powerful. the future is pathetic
“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."
Perfect summary about the changes you want to make in Linux.
