Almost 7.000 MS-DOS games available to play from your browser

Doom among the thousands of games available on archive.org

Video game emulators are programs that are always among the most sought after in any app store. For Linux we have everything, like the famous M or others like VICE with which we can emulate all kinds of Commodore computer programs. To be able to use most emulators it is necessary that we install the program, but there are also others that will allow us enjoy many games from our web browser.

Has been in archive.org where they have collected thousands of MS-DOS games. They've actually been doing it for a long time and right now there are almost 7.000 games available, all of them accessible from a web browser. What we have is basically an emulator DOSBOX which we access from Firefox, Chrome or practically any other browser and from where we can play almost as if we were in front of a PC from the '90s.

Classic PC games in your browser

The main problem that I have encountered when trying some games is precisely what I have not encountered: none in Spanish. On the other hand, everything else is the same as it was more than 20 years ago: once the game is chosen and started, we have to wait for it to "install", although what we will actually do is download the image. Once downloaded, we will enter the game, not without first choosing our sound card or other configuration.

When we start a game, like one of Larry's that I have played, we realize that they still have something to improve. Although I would not complain about the image they offer, I can say that the sound does not always go as expected. But, uh, we are talking about a game emulator that we execute in the browser; it will get better.

In the list of games there are many that are worth taking a look to remember how things were some time ago, such as Discworld or many versions of PC soccer, a game that, if I remember correctly, was sold on kiosks and its most interesting point was the management of the teams.

I'll let you see if I can sell Ronaldo and make my life a bit complicated.
