MythTV 31 arrives with improvements in video decoding

Myth TV 31

Right now, the vast majority of the planet's inhabitants are at home undergoing quarantine due to the Coronavirus. Some of us can still do work from home, but many are locked up at home without really knowing what to do. For this reason, companies like Movistar have made their Movistar + Lite channel service available to everyone, but there are also people who prefer to look for a little life. The latter may be happy to know that Myth TV 31 has been available for a few hours.

This is the first update to MythTV since the release of v30 of the software, something that took place at the beginning of 2019. MythTV 31 has arrived after a lot of work by its developers, and much of it has been done in the video decoding. Here are the most prominent changes that have been included in this version that was released today, March 23.

MythTV 31 Highlights

  • Significant changes in video decoding and playback.
  • Support for the Schedules Direct DataDirect guide service has been removed. Now either of the two XMLTV grabbers must be used for Schedules Direct.
  • Much improved channel scanning.
  • Python3 is now supported. MythTV's Python2 support is now deprecated and will be removed in a future release.

The new version is already available in code form and can be downloaded from this link. It is also available from a repository, one that changes depending on the version. For the software v31 we have to open a terminal and write the following (the «31» is the version):

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mythbuntu/31
