Mozilla Thunderbird 60 will have a calendar (finally)

Thunderbird logo

Mozilla is preparing a new version of Mozilla Thunderbird. This new version will not be another version but a great version similar to Firefox Quantum in its older brother, Mozilla Firefox. This version it's called Mozilla Thunderbird 60.

A version that does not have major changes in the engine or core of the application but will have great news and changes compared to other versions. At least that's how it can be seen in the beta version that has recently appeared on the Mozilla development channel.
As we say in the title, Mozilla Thunderbird 60 will finally have a calendar with the email client. I know that all of us who used and used Thunderbird can have a calendar, but it was not part of the email client but a plugin called Lightning that previously gave the possibility to choose to install it and in the latest versions it was installed by default, but it was not part of the client. Now not only will the calendar be part of the client but it will also be able to interact with the mail application, allowing to send events, create events according to email, etc ...

In the mail aspect, Thunderbird 60 will allow compact the IMAP email account and we can use it compactly, saving hard disk space. There will also be a mbox and maildir format conversion tool that is still in the testing phase but is giving good results and that will allow the conversion of emails in these formats.

Thunderbird 60 is currently in development but we can install it in our distribution for free and easy. For this we only have to download the package of the Mozilla repository; unzip it and run the file called Thunderbird. This will make us have Mozilla Thunderbird 60 but it will not be the default version of our distribution, for which we will have to wait a little longer.
