Microsoft announces AI camera with Linux

Microsoft announced a new kit called "Vision AI Developer" with a 8 megapixel camera with 4K resolution running Linux on a Qualcomm processor. The kit is intended for AI developers using Azure Machine Learning and Azure IoT Edge.

Although some are still getting used to Microsoft using Linux for its platform Azure Sphere, now the company has decided to add it to its smart camera with artificial intelligence as well.

The Vision AI Developer kit combines the platform of Qualcomm Vision Intelligence which is backed by the QCS603 chip, with the service of Microsoft Azure IoT Edge, built on Azure IoT. The platform also includes Vision Studio and Azure Machine Learning to build, train, and publish models.

The Vision AI Developer Kit was originally announced in May 2018 as a collaboration with Qualcomm, which recently announced its Qualcomm Vision Intelligence platform. This machine learning platform was released on the 10nm QCS605 and QCS603 chips.

There are two Vision AI Developer kits available, one from eInfochips and one from Altek.

The eInfochips Vision AI Developer Kit is available for $ 249 dollars on the official page. All the information is in the Microsoft shipping announcementas well as in the GitHub page. The Altek kit has its own page.
