Yesterday, December 30, the Manjaro developer team He launched a major update. Specifically, it updated many packages of the existing installations, among which we have the latest versions of KDE Applications in its KDE edition or a new update of Pamac. The new images (20.2) are yet to come, but what they have released is Manjaro 21.0-Pre1, or what is the same, the first preliminary version of his next installment.
At the moment, there is not much information on what will include what will arrive under the codename of Ornara, but the image they have shared does leave some clues. To begin with, it will arrive with Linux 5.10 installed by default, and the three official editions will use the latest versions of their graphical environments, where a main edition stands out that will use Xfce 4.16 that I arrive the December 23.
Manjaro 21.0 Ornara will arrive in February, approximately
As for the other two graphical environments, Ornara will use the current ones Plasma 5.20 and GNOME 3.38, as Plasma 5.21 will be released in February and GNOME 40 (yes, 40, which will change so as not to be confused with gtk4.0) will be released about a month later. Another piece of information that is also known is that the package manager will already be Pacmac 10, logical if we take into account that it is already available even in the ARM version that we can install on boards such as the Raspberry Pi.
Although Manjaro has not provided a release date, we do know that it usually releases a new version every 5 months or so, so Manjaro 21.0 Ornara should arrive in february, as happened with v19 Kyria. All their news will reach existing users sooner or later, and what they release when the time comes will be new ISO images for zero installs.
