Lubuntu 17.10 will have LXQT as a functional desktop

Lubuntu 17.10 desktop image with LXQT

This week we have learned new progress on the development of the next version of Ubuntu and the official flavors. Version that brings some new features known as the incorporation of Gnome as the main Ubuntu desktop. But it will also bring some lesser known but just as important changes. One of these changes will be the arrival of the LXQT desktop in Lubuntu 17.10.

Finally, Lubuntu will use the LXQT desktop but it will not be something standard in the Lubuntu 17.10 version but will have to wait a few more months. But we will have the option of choosing it as a standard desktop.

Lubuntu 17.10 will let us choose between LXQT and LXDE, for now

The current development version of Lubuntu 17.10 has the version LXQT 0.11, a version that will be modified for the final version, since LXQT version 0.12 is expected to be available by then. The user will be able to choose which desktop to use, either use LXQT or if they prefer, choose the classic and stable LXDE. In addition to the change of desk or rather the freedom of choice, Lubuntu 17.10 changes media player, leaving Gnome Player and replacing it with Gnome MPV.

The distribution will also change the network manager, opting for dhcpcd to manage the DHCP and DHCPv6 clients. This will cause many of the problems that exist related to the network to be partially solved or at least it is expected.

The first version Lubuntu 17.10 alpha is expected to be released later this month, around June 29. However, we can already experiment with the new features of the version, as well as the operation of LXQT thanks to the Ubuntu ISO image repository. In it you can find the latest daily version of Lubuntu 17.10. But we recommend that you use a virtual machine for this, in which any damage or error will not affect our production team.
