Linux Mint is the operating system of choice for Will Weatheron, and the project will try to collaborate with the Steam Deck

Will Weatheron and Linux Mint

Clem Lefebvre, project leader of Linux Mint, posted his monthly note of news, the one that coincides with August 2022. He has told some interesting things, but he has started with the one that seemed funniest. And it turns out that they have found out that Will Weaton uses his operating system. They have not given many details about it, or how they found out or what they have heard, but the one that became famous for Star Trek and later in The Big Bang Theory uses Linux Mint.

In a somewhat more serious tone, Clem spoke of the Steam deck. He assures that it is an incredible device that will make Linux gaming advance a lot, and he has bought one of Valve's consoles. Although he is clear that Arch Linux and KDE are not the best ecosystem for Linux Mint, he will try to do his bit, for example, with Warpinator. The application that allows you to share files with other devices that are connected on the same network is like Flatpak, and it is one of the tools that could be nice to have on the Steam Deck.

Linux Mint continues to fix some issues

As for the OS itself, Clem says that both LMDE 5 and Linux Mint 21 are already available, and both use the new update tool and the new version of Cinnamon 5.4 based on Mutter. They're fixing some small regressions in Cinnamon, and will continue to improve the update tool. They are also preparing to release the Linux Mint 21 Edge ISO with the HWE (for new hardware) kernel.

After mentioning that the Software Center shows all the packages and flatpak applications that are available, Clem reminds that LMDE 4 «Debbie» has reached the end of its life cycle, so it advises users to upgrade to LMDE 5. Instructions are in this link.

The next information note will arrive in October. Until then, live long and prosper.
