Linux Mint 20.3 Beta Now Available, Stays at Linux 5.4 and Officially Introduces Thingy

Linux Mint 20.3 Beta

Just like we advance the first day of December, it is already available Linux Mint 20.3 Beta. It has not been announced on social networks nor has they published a note that reports the availability of the beta of v20.3 of the mint-flavored Linux, but it can be downloaded from the public servers of bytemark and from NLUUG in the flavors in which it is available: Cinnamon (the main one), MATE and Xfce.

Although there are a few, and each version has its own, among the novelties we must highlight two. One is that Linux Mint 20.3 comes with Cinnamon 5.2, something that must be mentioned because it is the desktop developed by the same team. The other is a new app called Thingy which can be used to quickly access recent and favorite documents. It is an XApp and can be used in other operating systems.

Linux Mint 20.3 Features

  • Linux 5.4, the same as in 20.2, and hence we put "Features" and not "New".
  • Based on Ubuntu 20.04.3.
  • Cinnamon 5.2, MATE 1.26 and Xfce 4.16.
  • New app Thingy for quick access to recent and favorite documents.
  • Dark mode in applications like Celluloid, GNOME Terminal, Hypnotix, Pix and XViewer.
  • Improvements to the Mint-Y theme, the default Linux Mint theme that now has rounder title bars and larger buttons.

Users interested in trying Linux Mint 20.3 right now can do so by downloading the images from the links we have provided at the beginning of this article. Keep in mind that we will be facing an operating system in beta phase, so failures are likely to be experienced. We must also remember that there will be a stable version in about ten days, so for the average user it may be a better idea to wait to receive the Christmas gift, since these days some bugs can be found and corrected.
