Linux Mint 18 is now available to everyone

Linux Mint 18

Although we do not know it officially, the Linux Mint 18 installation images have been released, so users can now download the new version of Linux Mint, also known as Sarah. The news has been given by several users who have detected how Linux Mint servers were updated with the final version While currently on the Linux Mint website it has not yet been updated with the new version of the popular menthol distribution.

Linux Mint 18 is now available even though it doesn't reflect the official website

The new changes in the distribution we can know through the development versions, but it is true that not having official information, we still do not know nothing about the small details that Linux Mint 18 will have although there are already videos where its operation is shown. In any case we know that Linux Mint 18 is based on Ubuntu 16.04 with kernel 4.4, Cinnamon 3 and MATE 1.14 It will be the default desktops (at least for now until the flavors come out), Mint-Y will be the new artwork although it is not enabled and the X-Apps will be working from the first moment.

We have also learned that MDM is updated to version 2.0, the popular startup manager reaches its second version with new improvements and bug fixes. Gufw will be present as well as the GTK3 libraries and the support for programs that use them.

Linux Mint 18 MATE will have the latest version of the desktop although it will also have the same new features as Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon. As we have said, Linux Mint 18 is not yet available on the web but it is available through its servers so we can get the installation image through this link. We also put a video with the first minutes of operation with Linux Mint 18. So enjoy it !!

Do you know when the KDE version is coming? It is what I look forward to the most this year in Linux.

Hello, I have been abandoning Windows and Linux Mint I have liked a lot. I have Mint 17.3 Cinnamon installed and I see that the new Mint 18 version is coming out and not
    goes out to the public.
I have the following query: is it advisable to wait for the official and update from my Mint 17.3 to avoid reinstalling? Or do a clean install from the Mint 18 iso?
    Greetings and thanks.

Ana. I think it is better to do a clean installation, since Linux Mint 18 is based on Ubuntu 16.04, and Linux Mint 17.3 that you have is based on Ubuntu 14.04.3, so it involves several improvements and updates. Although you can try and see the changes. Greetings.

Lo and behold, I installed Mint 18 Ciannamon. You cannot change the resolution of
the screen. I was only able to do it from the console, and every time I reboot back
to do the same. Another drama also with the change of wallpaper.
I saw that it can be done from the console, but by inserting a long syringe and
I was put off thinking that it was the same again when rebooting. Didn't you try something so
elemental brainy Mint? Any suggestion? These muddles with the
The graphical part makes many who come from Windows feel like going back to the first one. Greetings.

      Ana, several things:

      - Mint brainy tried many things, and in this article it is said that they are not the ones who encourage you to try it on your computer, it is said that it seems that it is already prepared and that it can be installed and tested.

      - One of the capabilities of almost all GNU / Linux distributions is that they can be tested without doing an installation, through LiveCD, LiveDVD or LiveUSB, with which you could have verified that this right-handed, in this state, does not work the first time in your machine, a good sign to keep waiting for others to try it and one day a version that does adapt to the hardware of your machine will arrive. I don't remember this ability in Microsoft's operating system.

      - From your last comment: «... many that come from Windows ...» I suspect that every time a new version of Windows appears, even if not officially, its users install it and they have absolutely no problem, right? I disagree, I have been a Windows user for many years and still waiting to install new official versions long enough for them to make several revisions, I have almost always detected problems on some of my computers.

The GNU / Linux world is getting better and better. And I am not saying that compared to the MS-Windows world, I am not in any battle.

      regards
