Linux Lite users can now try Linux kernel 5.4

Linux Lite users are almost always the first to tell about the latest Linux Kernel series and Linux Kernel 5.4 is no exception.

Announced on November 24, 2019, Linux Kernel 5.4 is now the most advanced series, adding many improvements and new features, among which we can mention support for Microsoft's ExFAT file system, lock mode for the kernel as a new layer. of security to block malicious software, many improvements for AMD users, among other things.

As usual, Linux Lite developer and founder Jerry Bezencon was quick and has already added this package for all supported Linux Lite versions, so its download and installation is now available in the official repositories. Which leaves Linux Lite users among the first to try this new Linux kernel series.

How to install Linux Kernel 5.4 on Linux Lite

If you already have Linux Lite and want to install Linux Kernel 5.4 you can do so by opening the Lite Tweaks utility found in the System menu within Applications. There you must select the Kernel installer and search for Linux Kernel 5.4.

If you want to do it in a more traditional way you can use the following command in the terminal:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install linux-headers-linuxlite-5.4.0 linux-image-linuxlite-5.4.0 –y

However, note that Linux Kernel 5.4 is recommended for those who have compatibility issues with their recent kernel version, not for general use. Also, you will need to reinstall all external modules and restart the computer when done.
