Linux 5.2 rc5: the fifth Release Candidate is out

Linux Kernel

You can now download the new Linux kernel release from the official kernel.org site. This same Saturday, Linus Torvalds was in charge of presenting at the LKML the fifth RC o Release Candidate, that is, the one that will be a candidate to become the final version of the Linux kernel. Specifically for what it will be Linux 5.2. Linux is the project that does not rest, does not stop in its development, and since the release of 5.0 earlier this year, a lot of news and work has been invested in it.

Linus has commented that they are already reaching the latest releases of the candidates before the imminent arrival of the final version of Linux 5.2. As he has commented in the mail, the modifications that are coming are calming down, there are less and less things to polish in order to leave the core finished. The new rc5 package is even smaller than rc4, as wanted. But it is also true that there are still some things pending.

Among the new features that can be found in the new Linux 5.2 rc5 code are the updates for SPDX, so diffstat now seems more beautiful, small and elegant. There are also normal changes in the controllers or drivers included, such as those related to sound, GPUs, networks, USB, block devices, HID, etc. Besides, some bugs or problems in the code referring to architectures, documentation, Misc. Have been solved.

So if you want to try it, you can now download it to your distro to configure, compile and install it. That way, you will also be contributing if it gives some kind of failure or error that can be solved, if you report it, prior to the final launch. Remember that the latest stable version of the kernel is Linux 5.1.11 at the moment ... but the new kernel RC will be released shortly.
