Linus Torvalds says things are going well with Linux Kernel 5.0, second RC releases

Linus Torvalds in a Con

Famous Linux creator Linus Torvalds today announced the general availability for testing of the second Release Candidate of his next major release, Linux Kernel 5.0.

According to Torvalds, things are going in the right direction for the Linux Kernel 5.0 series that would arrive sometime in late February and early March 2019, and the second RC release is here to add many improvements to the perf tool, improved networking, SCSI, GPU and drivers, update on x86, ARM, RISC-V and C-SKY architectures, as well as fixes on Btrfs and CIFS file systems.

“The build window was a bit unusual for the holidays and I was scared this would affect the second RC, but honestly, that hasn't happened. RC2 looks very normal. Are there some commits that missed the build window? Yes. But nothing out of the ordinary, things look very normal, ”said Linus Torvalds in the ad.

Linux Kernel 5.0 RC3 will arrive on January 17

Of course, it is a bit early to say that things are going well with Linux Kernel 5.0 since development of the series started just a week ago when Linus announced the first RC and it will still be seen if everything continues normal for the next seven or eight launches. Depending on this, Linux Kernel 5.0 could arrive on February 24 or March 3.

Until then, we are awaiting the Linux Kernel RC release which is expected to hit the streets before the end of the week. Meanwhile, you can test Linux Kernel 5.0 on your computer, of course, keep in mind that this is a Kernel under test and errors could arise, do not install it if you have no knowledge of the subject.
