Librem 5 will be more powerful than what we had been told

Many of you will know Librem 5 as the Linux smartphone, a mobile that got enough funding to go on the market, but that does not offer great hardware or a great company behind it, but great software: Gnu / Linux.

The smartphone manufactured by Purism will arrive in 2019 but it will not be as we had been told but rather It will be a more powerful smartphone than mentioned in your description of the crowdfunding campaign.

When Librem 5 was introduced to us, the mobile was based on a Freescale SoC, the i.MX6. A fairly well known and old SoC but sufficient for many tasks running on a Linux operating system. Recently the purism team has reported that such SoC will not be present in the mobile but will be a more powerful and updated model, specifically the Freescale i.MX8, a newer and more efficient processor that ensures higher power and better performance.

The smartphone screen will not be small at all, something useful if we want to use the smartphone as an extension of our computer or laptop. Thus, the smartphone will have a 5-inch or 5,5-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a high resolution that many current computers using Gnu / Linux may not have.

The Purism team has emphasized that it continues working in conjunction with Gnome and KDE projects, something interesting, because not only will it allow Librem 5 users to use these desktops on their mobile, but it will also help to create that famous "Convergence" between mobile and computer that does not yet exist and that could exist perfectly thanks to Gnu / Linux .

Unfortunately, in the face of this news, we have the sour news that It will not be until 2019 when we can have this smartphone in our hands. Bad news for those looking to get their hands on a mobile that is neither Android nor iOS, but we will have to wait a little longer.
