Kubuntu 19.10 arrives with these news and some important absence

Kubuntu 19.10

Yesterday was an important day for users of Ubuntu or one of its official flavors: the version 19.10, codenamed Eoan Ermine. In total and since the arrival of Ubuntu Budgie, there are eight flavors and it is difficult to highlight one because there is something for everyone, but I think that with the move from KDE 4 to Plasma 5, Kubuntu has been gaining popularity and followers. Yesterday it was launched Kubuntu 19.10 And it should have had a specific role that would make it even better, but it was the only member of the Eoan Ermine family to not include it.

After having tried the latest Ubuntu 19.10 Daily Live and trying to install Kubuntu 19.10, there was something that caught my attention: where is the option to install the operating system in ZFS as root? No this. The reason is explained in the release note of the new version of the operating system: they simply did not have time, but they promise that it will arrive for Kubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa in April 2020.

What's new in Kubuntu 19.10

  • Supported until July 2020.
  • No 32-bit version.
  • Linux 5.3.
  • plasma 5.16.5.
  • KDE Applications 19.04.3.
  • Framework 5.62.
  • Qt 5.12.4.
  • Libre Office 6.3.
  • Possibility to install a Wayland session with the package plasma-workspace-wayland. The Kubuntu team advises that it is not supported, but will add the option to choose the Wayland session at startup.
  • NVIDIA drivers included in the ISO image.

As for absences, there is only one real one:

Support for ZFS as root on install came too late in the Eoan cycle to deploy and test it on the Ubiquity KDE front end. This option is a target for the 20.04 LTS release.

On the other hand, there are two improvement points that we can obtain if we add the KDE Backports repository: plasma 5.17, which did not arrive on time either and includes very interesting news, or KDE Applications 19.08, the second important version of 2019 of the KDE applications that introduced new functions.

Kubuntu 19.04 Eoan Ermine is now available from this link.
