Krita 4.3.0 has arrived with the poster of the most stable version in its history

Krita 4.3

Three months after the previous version and a year after v4.2.0, the team of developers of this software created by and for cartoonists has released Krita 4.3.0. As we read in the release note, comes with many functions, but above all to correct many bugs. This was intended to be the most stable release in Krita's history, so they have spent a lot of time focusing on improving stability and performance.

Krita 4.3.0 has arrived with more than 2000 changes, two thousand improvements that have been introduced since v4.2.9 of the software, no changes or improvements combined between two or more versions. The release also includes work from the 2019 Google Summer of Code projects, including making Krita available on the Google Play in beta form for Android and Chrome OS. For these systems, the software is based on the desktop Krita 4.3.0, but is in beta.

Krita 4.3.0 now available, also for Android and Chrome OS

As for the new functions, separate corrections, the following stand out:

  • The animation rendering dialog now has a new option to export only single frames of an animation.
  • New hotkey linkable actions have been included to select the previous / next sister layer, to work within a single group of layers.
  • The isolated layer feature is now called "Isolated Active Layer" to better reflect how it works.
  • New group of watercolor effect brush presets.
  • Packages now correctly handle time zones and display dates in the user's preferred format.
  • There are a couple of new patterns that are good to use with the new Palletize filter.
  • New filters.
  • Krita now allows you to set opacity and lightness on colored brush tips separately. This allows a number of new possibilities, among which the ability to obtain a remnant texture of oil or acrylic impasto.
  • The brush brush motor is now about 20% faster.
  • The GIMP image hose (gih) format supports multiple dimensions, so one can have multiple rows of brushes that can be randomized horizontally, and perhaps incremented vertically. And now Krita's exporter supports it too.
  • Now it is possible to take the central area of the canvas out of the window and put it in its own window - the separate canvas mode is useful when for example you have a big screen and a small screen, then you can put the image on the big screen and all tools and couplers on the small screen.
  • Improvements in color management.
  • Tool enhancements including fill tool and contiguous selection tool.
  • The magnetic selection tool is now more accurate.
  • New modes for the Gradient tool.
  • Creating selections is now much faster.
  • Krita now tries harder to make sure a file is actually saved correctly: check size, date, open file, check content right after saving.
  • Fix to really nasty bug that made selections that are completely out of the picture could be saved and loading would make it seem impossible to paint.
  • Added an option to open an image as a file layer in an already loaded image.
  • There is a new option to save images in .kra with all layers cropped to image size. This is disabled by default.

Now available from the author's website
