Kernel 4.13 is now available for everyone !!

Despite being a week late, the new Linux kernel is now available to everyone. Kernel 4.13 can now be obtained from the official Kernel website, this has been notified by Linus Torvalds from the official Kernel development mailing list.

This new kernel incorporates few new features in terms of software but it does add and improves support for many physical devices such as the ASUS Zen AIO MD-5110 keyboard or new SBC type boards, boards with ARM architecture that are increasingly used.

The main objective of the Linux kernel versions is to correct and improve the kernel. This is achieved by solving bugs that appear or have appeared. In this aspect, Kernel 4.13 fulfills this function. But, in addition, this new version includes support for new types of hardware, such as SBC boards with ARM architecture.

Newer Intel processor architectures are also supported with this version of the kernel. Nvidia's Nouveau driver will include support for HDMI 3D and stereoscope; DRM object synchronization has also been included in this release as well as improved thunderbolt port support. The new version also improves support for certain file systems used in Gnu / Linux distributions. The enhanced file systems are Brtfs, EXT4, F2FS, and XFS.

The new version of the kernel can be obtained from the official website, but its installation requires advanced / expert knowledge. So if we want to have this kernel and we don't have that knowledge, we have to wait a bit of time. But if we have a rolling release distribution, it will be a matter of days before we have the new version of the kernel in our distribution. Once the new version is installed, we will see how the performance of our distribution will improve significantly.
