Kernel 4.10 just received its latest maintenance update, that is, version 4.10.17. Being the last maintenance update, Kernel 4.10 will stop receiving support very soon, so users of this Kernel will have to update to version 4.11.
Kernel 4.10.17 has some important changes, modifying more than 100 files in order to fix all the security holes and bugs that have been found with respect to version 4.10.16. Without a doubt, a good way to end a good version of the kernel.
Besides that, the news comes to improve the performance of various processor architecturessuch as ARM, x86, and PowerPC. In addition to that, some file systems have been improved, such as EXT4, CIFS, OverlayFS and Ceph among others. Finally the US and Bluetooth drivers were updated among many others.
This version ends with kernel 4.10.X life cycle. Thus, users of this version have to switch to a supported Kernel version, for example version 4.11.2, which is currently considered the last stable version.
Another good option is switch to an older kernel version, but with LTS support. These brackets last longer than standard version brackets, guaranteeing virtually lifetime updates.
Whichever option you choose, what you should know is that version 4.10.17 it is no longer safe. Since no more maintenance updates are being released, any bugs that are found will not be corrected. In this way, this version will be exposed to serious bugs if you do not update.
