In the latest Kdenlive releases, KDE is adding tons of useful features, and to be honest I don't know if I'm happy or scared. The chances are usually good, but if you go too fast you can stumble, and that is what has been happening to one of the best and most popular video editors available for Linux. Four months ago, for example, they added a feature for vertical videos to show a background based on the main image, and yesterday announced the launch de Kdenlive 21.04 and it also arrives loaded with news.
The KDE project claims that they have greatly improved the interface and usability of the software, while also they have fixed many bugs, more than 500 in recent months. On the other hand, they have added interesting functions such as one that will automatically transcribe any audio to text using the Vosk recognition tool. Kdenlive 21.04 Highlights
- Transcription tool to pass speech to text. Right now it supports 17 languages and dialects, but you have to download the model and add it as a dictionary from the settings.
- Improvements in the interface and usability. Zoom bars have been improved to make it easier to zoom in or out. Right now it is available for the horizontal and will soon reach the vertical as well.
- Information for key links has been added to the left, while information for contextual elements has been moved to the right of the status bar.
- The timeline has been improved and the guide and marker colors are now better visible, the guides are now above the ruler.
- New multimedia browser to make it easier for us to find the files.
- Improved the keyframe panel.
- New effects, such as text that appears gradually. Letters, words, or phrases may appear.
- The alpha strobe can now be applied to text, images or videos.

Now available
Kdenlive 21.04 arrived as part of KDE Gear 21.04, and is now available at Flatub , as a AppImage. There is also a repository available for Debian / Ubuntu that we can add with these commands:

Other distributions, such as those based on Arch Linux, have already added it to their official repositories.
