KDE Plasma 5.6 is out

Those responsible for the KDE project have announced that your flagship KDE Plasma desktop has a new version available, specifically version 5.6.

The release of the stable version of this version has taken place a few hours ago, which was announced after having been almost a month testing the beta version.

The main novelties that we have available on this desktop are the improvement of the task manager, which is now capable of showing in great detail the progress of the tasks that are being executed. Also support for new colors has been added and they have focused on offering a more colorful and refined look to the desktop.

Another novelty will appeal to the most nostalgic, since el Old Weather Widget KDE's signature feature has reappeared and integration with the Wayland protocol has been improved.

If you did not know about KDE Plasma, it is one of the best desktops that exist for the GNU / Linux operating systems. This desk it is present by default in operating systems like Kubuntu, but it is capable of being installed in almost any Linux distribution that has it in its repositories. This desktop is accompanied by the famous KDE Applications, which are a package of essential KDE applications that are designed to improve the user experience using the desktop .

As usual, KDE Plasma 5.6 will have 5 maintenance versions that will go out periodically with the aim of adding small improvements and correcting errors. The planned release dates are as follows.

  • Plasma 5.6.2 on April 5.
  • Plasma 5.6.3 on April 18.
  • Plasma 5.6.4 on May 10.
  • Plasma 5.6.5 on June 14.

To install this desktop, please check the repositories of your favorite distribution if it is ready for download and installation. On some operating systems, it may take a few days for it to be available, but be patient.
