KDE Gear 21.08 comes many news, changes and more

Several days ago update release unveiled cumulative application of August (21.08) developed by the KDE Project, which are now known as "KDE Gear", instead of KDE Apps and KDE Applications. In total, as part of the update, versions of 226 programs, libraries and plug-ins have been released.

In the information panel, which is activated by pressing F11 and displays detailed information about files and directories, the data about the size and access time is updated in real time, which is convenient for tracking the progress of the download and the appearance of changes.

In the document viewer Okular, it is now possible to add a button to the toolbar to change the text and background color from the page from black letters on a white background to dark red letters on a gray background, which is more comfortable to read, plus an option has been provided to disable the display of pop-up windows with notifications about files, forms and embedded signatures.

As well added settings for selective hiding of various types of annotations (highlight, underline, frame, etc.). When adding annotations, the navigation and selection modes are automatically disabled so you don't accidentally jump to another area and select text for the clipboard instead of marking for the annotation.

In terminal emulator Konsole, support for previewing images and directories has been added: when hovering over the name of the file with an image, the user will be shown a thumbnail of the image, and hovering over the name of the directory, information about the content.

If multiple tabs need to be displayed at the same time, a new button has been proposed on the toolbar and the combinations Ctrl + "(" and Ctrl + ")" have been added, allowing you to split the window and display multiple tabs at once.

It also stands out separately the SSH plugin, which allows to perform actions on external hosts, for example, with its help you can create a directory on another system with which a connection via SSH is configured. To enable the plugin, use the "Plugins> Show SSH manager" menu, after which a sidebar will appear with a list of SSH hosts added to ~ / .ssh / config.

In the image viewer Gwenview, work has been done to increase performance and modernize the interface. The lower right corner offers a new compact set of buttons that allow you to quickly change the scale and size, as well as change the background color.

During navigation, now you can use arrow buttons and cursor keys located on the panel to switch from one image to another. You can use the space bar to stop and resume video playback. Added support for displaying images with 16-bit color per channel and reading color profiles from files in various formats. The hamburger menu shown in the upper right corner has been restructured, giving access to all available options.

Spectacle offers the possibility of creating a screenshot of the window on which the cursor is located mouse (activated by pressing Meta + Ctrl + Print). Significantly improved reliability in Wayland-based environments.

Kate has made it easy to work with snippet templates which can now be downloaded through Discover Application Manager. The Dart programming language supports LSP (Language Server Protocol).
