KDE Eco, in addition to being lightweight, KDE now wants its software to be environmentally friendly

KDE Echo

I just read a new in KDE Blog in Spanish that, at first, has left me pensive. I don't really like politics, and reading about KDE Echo, an initiative that will work to make the software energy efficient, has made me think of Mozilla, a company that both a server, as his colleague Diego and some users we criticize that focuses on everything except its flagship software. But no, the KDE does not work only Over there.

The KDE Blog explains it very well: «the reasons are not simply economic«, Something they mention after remembering how the price of electricity is today. With ecology in mind, hence the name of KDE Eco, the project that also develops the Plasma graphical environment, among others, wants your software to consume fewer resourcessuch as RAM, processor, hard drive, and probably graphics card. With this, due to the ecological issue, we will win on two fronts: one, the equipment will consume fewer resources (energy); two, computers will last longer, so they take longer to become trash.

Thanks to KDE Eco, our teams will suffer less

In the KDE Blog they mention that KDE would also be fighting against programmed obsolescence, a concept that I am not sure is part of the intentions of the K project. If it exists, and in my opinion, what best defines programmed obsolescence is what What does Apple do, that an iPhone 7 Plus from 2016 (I have one) may work perfectly in 2021, but it's already been a couple of versions of iOS that it can't use some of the newer features. The intention, that one feels that they have something old and buy the newest product. The way I see it and believe it, KDE Eco is more for what I have explained: consume less power and generate less waste.

On the other hand, it is not mentioned like that, but all KDE users will benefit from this initiative. Consuming fewer resources, such as RAM or processor, should also mean that will work well in modest teams. To be honest, I think it's something he already does, but it could be even better in the future.

It is a bit curious about the author of this article: he starts by saying first of all "I don't like politics very much" (?) - for nothing, by the way, because energy efficiency or environmental care are questions of survival on the planet, not "political" - and then in all his articles he does not stop putting his political opinions.
    Curious.
    Greetings, and good for KDE.
