KDE Connect officially arrives on the App Store

KDE Connect on iOS 15

about six months ago we publish the news about what KDE Connect had brought to iOS. It seemed impossible, but KDE insisted and there was the option. It could be tested, since it was in the beta phase accessible via TestFlight, but today it has officially arrived at the App Store. In some media it was published yesterday, May 9, but at that time, at least in Spain, the app appeared, but below the text "Coming soon".

That "Coming Soon" text is gone today, and anyone with an iPhone or iPad who wants to interact with their Linux PC can now officially do so. Things can be done, but whoever is thinking of receiving messages and being able to answer them from the PC, forget it; what is in iOS is a "fair" version that allows you to do some things, but it is far from what can be done in Android.

What can we do with KDE Connect for iOS

  • Share the clipboard.
  • Share URLs and files from any application... or so they promise.
  • Using the iPhone or iPad as a trackpad, and this could come in handy for my older laptop where precision with it has gone to shit.
  • remote presentations.
  • Run remote commands.
  • TLS end-to-end encryption.

To download KDE Connect on iOS or iPadOS, simply search for the name of the app in the App Store, or tap on this link from an iPhone or iPad. I tried the beta, and the fact that it didn't allow me to access some of the features available in the Android app disappointed me, but I got it. If at least the available options have improved, maybe I'll give it more use now that it's out of the testing phase. I used it more or less, KDE Connect for iOS is now official.
