KDE and GNOME Team Up to Create the New Age Linux Desktop

There are many Linux users out there, and despite that, systems like Apple or Windows have not caught on.

According to Linus Torvalds, one of the causes is the “fragmentation that exists between different software developers.”Unlike Windows, in Linux there are many developers, which prevents the system from being unified.

Either way, today we have some very nice news, two of the most popular Linux desktop competitors, GNOME and KDE Foundation will join forces to work on a Linux desktop and next-generation solutions. Both open source giants will be the sponsors of the Linux App Summit (LAS) 2019 that will take place from November 12 to 15, 2019.

This is not the first time that two rival companies share the stage. Over a decade ago, rival organizations decided to work together, but nothing very fruitful has come of it.

This event could be where we see a big change and concrete decisions for the future of Linux desktops. Working together, GNOME and KDE want to unify the Linux community and the great diversity of distributions. The goal is to have a system application that is scalable.

Both Neil McGovern, CEO of GNOME, and Aleix Pol Gonzalez, Vice President of KDE, said that they hope this decision will solidify the Linux community by providing them with a platform on which next-generation software can be based.

We hope that LAS 2019 brings good news to the Linux community and that there will be news in the graphical environments section that unifies a market that needs it.

They continually confuse GNU / Linux (an operating system) with Linux (a kernel) in such a way that almost nothing makes sense. They talk about Linux users, and to give an example, Android uses it. So anyone with a cell phone is a Linux user. Incredible that to this day they continue to tirelessly repeat something so basic.

They also confuse fragmentation with freedom, if we wanted a system where you have to swallow what they put you, we would continue with Windows.

I think from the previous comments and that mindset more than anything else is why Linux (and I know what I'm talking about) is not as big and popular as it could be. Let's stop dealing with nonsense and focus on what's important. Those comments go back 10 years.

I find it as a great idea! Make a desktop environment with the strengths of KDE and GNOME, improving compatibility between different applications.
I don't think we lose freedom. There will always be that wonderful multiverse of distros, with their own desktop environments. I have tested many distros with their desktop environments and will surely continue to do so.
I think that when you bet on a project like this it is because you are looking at those millions of people who have to swallow Windows and do not have the means, knowledge or time to enter the Linux world. At first, I was also reluctant to get into Linux, only when I changed jobs and had a little more time did I want to ...
Greetings from someone who despite having been with Linux for 9 years, I consider myself a beginner ...

They have not said what the headline says. Obvious.
