If yesterday we were talking about a popular and important distribution within the KDE Project, today we have to do the same but about another large distribution with the Plasma desktop, this is KaOS. The distribution that was born as an alternative to lifelong distributions but with KDE has been 5 years old this month of April and to celebrate it a totally new installation ISO image has been released.
KaOS is a distribution rolling release which was based on Arch Linux but has little or remains of that distribution. During this time KaOS and its developers have shown total independence and can offer the best version of Plasma and KDE.
The new version not only updates the recently released software but also changes the artwork, logo and even the splash screen. Thus, KaOS completely renews its artwork called Midna and changes the welcome screen to Croeso (welcome in Welsh) which helps first install user to customize and "post install"(rare term but that explains very well what we mean) the KaOS distribution on the computer. This new application is written in QML and consumes less resources than the previous application.
Qt4 libraries have been removed from the repositories and also, after three years of problems with the Nouveau driver, KaOS has introduced the developed patches and all applications and web browsers based on QtWebengine work correctly. The Calamares installation wizard, used by KaOS, has also been renewed and updated with the latest stable version of this installer. The KaOS 2018.04 ISO image can be obtained through this link. And if you already have the distribution, it will be enough to update the distribution to receive these changes, although it will be of little use to have Croeso Do not you think?
We hope and wish that this anniversary is the first of many others to happen and that the KaOS distribution continues to stay this course, the course of being a great alternative within the linuxras alternatives.
