A few days ago we talked about the news that Linux Mint 18.3 will bring to its users. Among them was the incorporation of the TimeShift tool, a tool for making backup copies. However, users of other distributions can make use of this software without having to change their distribution to Linux Mint.
TimeShift is a backup tool that creates snapshots of the hard drive for later use and restore your computer to the created image. This snapshot system is quite useful and efficient when we have to restore many computers.
If we have Ubuntu installed or some distribution that is derived from it, such as Linux Mint, we can install Timeshift by opening a terminal and writing the following:
sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:teejee2008/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install timeshift
Installing Timeshift on non-Ubuntu distributions
If, on the other hand, we have another type of distribution, we must download us the 32-bit package or the 64-bit package and run it in the terminal. To run it, we just have to write the following:
./timeshift-latest-i386.run para equipos de 32 Bits. ./timeshift-latest-amd64.run para equipos de 64 Bits.
As its creator indicates, we may have some operating problem in some distributions. To do this, we only have to install certain packages. So we open the terminal and write the following:
sudo apt-get install libgee json-glib rsync
TimeShift is a useful and effective tool, but it may not be for us or directly, we prefer to use another backup tool. To uninstall TimeShift, we just have to use the terminal and type the following:
sudo apt-get remove timeshift
Or use the following:
sudo timeshift-uninstall
This will begin the uninstallation of TimeShift from our Gnu / Linux distribution. As you can see, the installation and uninstallation is very simple, as well as its operation. Although the most recommended is to have several hard drives or storage units to be able to save the snapshots that we create.
Hello, when you comment on any software, as in this case, it would be nice to put a link to its website.
It's good for them, it's good for us, and it's good for linuxadictos.
I do not know the reason for not putting links, not here, but on other websites / blogs. There may be something you don't know about, of course.
Greetings.
I would say that there is a link under the word 'download'
