How to install Caliber 3.16 on any GNU / Linux distribution

caliber

The famous Caliber ebook manager has become so popular that almost all distributions have this program in their official repositories. But it is true that not all distributions have the latest version of this ebook manager. Having or not having the latest version may mean that our eReader works correctly or not, as well as new functions or bugs that were there before and not now.

That is why we are going to tell you how to install Caliber 3.16, the latest version of this famous ebook manager. A version that is still compatible with all Gnu / Linux distributions as well as with other platforms such as macOS, portable Windows. And it also improves its server functions that will allow us to run and manage our library through a web browser.

Caliber 3.16 allows you to manage ebooks remotely thanks to a server

Caliber 3.16 can be obtained by following the instructions recommended by the development team. For this we will need that our distribution contains wget and python. In general, the latter has it but wget does not usually come in some distributions, in that case we will have to install it previously. Once we have everything, we open a terminal and type the following:

sudo -v && wget -nv -O- https://download.calibre-ebook.com/linux-installer.py | sudo python -c "import sys; main=lambda:sys.stderr.write('Download failed\n'); exec(sys.stdin.read()); main()"

After pressing enter, our distribution it will begin to download the content and packages necessary for its installation on the Gnu / Linux distribution. Depending on the speed of the connection, the installation will take a few minutes or so. The command takes care of everything and we will have everything installed upon completion. Although we have to say that after starting the program a wizard will start to help us with the configuration. Among the questions that they will ask us is the choice of the eReader, something very important and that we have to be precise in their answer.
