Install any flavor of Ubuntu on Raspberry Pi

The popularity of minicomputers and especially the Raspberry Pi continues to grow. A few years ago it was a dream to be able to install Ubuntu and other systems on such a small device. Today it is a reality thanks to the Ubuntu Pi Flavor Maker application, which allows you to install almost all "flavors" or versions of Ubuntu on the Raspberry Pi in an easy and fast way.

For now, this version only compatible with the Raspberry Pi 2(the original Rasp and the Raspberry Pi Zero seem not to be powerful enough). Its operation consists of a Script that makes almost all Ubuntu versions compatible with the particular architecture of this minicomputer.

In addition, this utility allows you to work with the typical Ubuntu package installers (apt, dpkg) and have the same features as desktop Ubuntu(with the obvious processor and RAM limitations of course).

Also, the operating system you install is compatible with all Raspberry Pi hardware and that you put in any of the ports and expansion pins it has (GPIO, SPI, I2C ...) which is always something positive to highlight.

However, at the moment it is incompatible with distribution updates or with Ubuntu's Snappy technology, which is normal. due to hardware limitations of single-board computers. KDE Plasma, Gnome or Unity desktops will not work either due to obvious limitations.

This project was born as a kind of "spin-off" to Ubuntu Mate for Raspberry Pi, with the aim that users could enjoy all the flavors of Ubuntu on their board. They do all this based on the famous Ubuntu for ARM.

The truth is that it seems to me a nice initiative since light desks like Xfce or Lxde are perfect for the low resources of the Raspberry Pi. More powerful desktops could be available in upcoming Raspberry Pi versions one day.

To download it, we will go to the official page of Ubuntu Pi Flavor Maker in which we can choose the ISO image of the Ubuntu flavor that we want install.
