If you use Telegram on Linux, we recommend you make this change in its latest version

Recover native bar in Telegram for Linux

A couple of days ago I saw above an article posted in OMG! Ubuntu! And I just thought "it's not that bad" and didn't think about making the change. But today when I have opened Telegram, I have seen something that I did not like at all: it had two bars, the native one, in my case of Plasma, and one the same as the one that appears in Windows. With bleeding eyes, I have looked again at that article that I now share with all of you.

The first thing I discovered is that no, there were not two bars; the extra bar that I was seeing was from another software that I had underneath. And it is that change the native bar to one equal to the one that appears in Windows, the new Telegram cuts the previous bar, that is, if we had it maximized, it stops being until we do it again. In any case, this is a matter of taste, but the change back can be done with a few clicks.

How to use our desktop bar in the latest version of Telegram

The steps to follow are these:

  1. We open Telegram. If we do not have it installed, we can do it as explained here.
  2. We go to the menu (three vertical lines) / Settings / Advanced.
  3. We slide down and check the "Use native window" box. Telegram will be minimized (in my case) and, when opening it, the change will have been made; no need to restart the messaging app.

Telegram is usually characterized by adding many options and giving users everything we need. By making the change, you will probably get your application to look the same on any operating system, but have not forgotten to add an option to revert it for users who prefer everything to have a more consistent design. In addition, the native bar on our desktop shows us the number of unread messages, a detail that may not be too important considering that they also appear in the system tray, but it is there. In any case, use the native bar it's the best we can do on Linux.
