Many articles we have intended to talk about Tor (The Onion Router) and more now with the interest in privacy, anonymity and browsing the famous and so unknown deep web ... But you should know that without detracting from TOR, since it is fantastic, there are also other alternatives such as I2P and Freenet.
TOR, Freenet and I2P They are the current networks that are in a more advanced state and the most recommended to maintain anonymity and privacy while accessing the Internet universe. But to know which one interests us the most, we must know each of the alternatives to fully understand its main characteristics.
Without going too far, we will say that TOR is known for its “outproxy” capabilities and I2P and Freenet for its “inproxy” (Darknet) and Private VPN capabilities.. In addition, the way of transmitting information and other peculiarities are different from one to the other. For example, TOR uses one bidirectional channel to transmit information through three repeaters (virtual circuit), while I2P uses two unidirectional channels for each direction of transfer.
Which to choose? Well, as I say, it depends on your needs. For example, in battle TOR vs. I2PIt must be recognized that TOR has a greater number of users and available resources, has more support, is more resistant to caesura due to its large size, efficient in terms of RAM memory consumption. But I2P has other advantages such as that the services are more efficient, as it does not have a centralized directory, targeted attacks are more difficult and it supports UDP, TCP and ICMP (TOR only TCP).
If we analyze Tor vs Freenet., we realize that both have advantages as in the previous case. TOR has more support, handles privacy better, is faster, etc. While Freenet has fewer limitations in terms of services provided, it can be more secure than TOR as there are fewer attack vectors, it has advantages as a distributed system compared to the centralization of TOR, it has a more extensive set of anonymous services than TOR , and supports UDP, ICMP and TCP protocols like I2P.
We could also compare I2P vs Freenet. and again we would find advantages on both sides. The advantages of I2P over Freenat are the ease of creating any tunnel, better performance, more stable implementation and with fewer problems, and there is more documentation to help you. And the benefits of Freenat compared to I2P are its distributed system thanks to DataStores, a more complex and secure name resolution system, which allows creating groups of Friends within the network to segment it and create small subnets ...
Which one do you choose?
So roughly Freenet is better :)
