HPLIP is updated again to support new systems, this time Debian 10 and Linux Mint 19.2, among others

HPLIP

As is usual in practically all its releases, HP has taken advantage of the launch of a new update of HPLIP to add support for new operating systems. To be more specific, the version released yesterday added support for Debian 10 Buster, Debian 9.9 Stretch, Linux Mint 19.2 Tub, OpenSuse Leap 15.1, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.0, and Manjaro Linux 18.0.4. In addition, support was also added for a group of printers and scanners that we will detail below.

HP Linux Imaging and Printing or HPLIP 3.19.8 has been in development in the last two months and it is the version that succeeds HPLIP 3.19.6 that was released last June. Below you have the list of news in the form of support that this version has included.

HPLIP 3.19.8 includes support for these printers and scanners

  • HP DesignJet T1530 Postscript.
  • HP DesignJet T2530 Postscript.
  • HP DesignJet T930 Postscript.
  • HP DesignJet T1600 Postscript Printer.

HP explains in its note launch than hp-uiscan will search device paper sizes dynamically for ScanJet 2 devices and will display an error message when a paper jam occurs in ScanJet devices. On the other hand, it also warns of some known bugs, such as a few ScanJet functions not working in RHEL 8, the search function in PDF does not work in Debian 10 and Linux Mint 19.2 or that the "hp-scan" command does not work for some ScanJet devices that use the USB connection, as device URL creation has problems. If the "hp-plugin" command fails, HP recommends using the following command:

sh hplip-3.19.8-plugin.run

HPLIP 3.19.8 is available from this link for a total of 15 Linux distributions, among which Debian / Ubuntu, Manjaro or Fedora stand out. There is also a more general version for other distributions.
