HP with Pop!_OS

Very few days after Canonical will throw Ubuntu 22.04, System76 released a new version of its operating system. It was Pop!_OS 22.04, and it was based on Jammy Jellyfish, but with all the changes that have made this distribution such a popular alternative. System76 is a company that, for the most part, offers hardware, and among them we have some computers that may have their operating system or a version of Ubuntu. For this reason it is surprising (only a little, since Pop!_OS can be downloaded and installed wherever we want) a piece of news that has been made public this week: HP will also sell computers with Pop!_OS installed by default.

System76 CEO tweet leads us directly to the website HP DevOne, a team that, like others like the kubuntu focus, is intended for developers. Of course, anyone can use it, but the technical specifications and the total price do not allow it to be the best option if what we want is to keep accounts, watch Netflix or use spreadsheets.

Technical specifications of the HP Dev One

What is published right now on their website is that the HP Dev One will have:

  • Pop!_OS installed by default. No version is mentioned, but it is expected to be 22.04.
  • AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 8-Core Processor.
  • 16GB of DDR4 RAM at 3200MHz.
  • 1TB of storage in PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD.
  • 14″ FHD anti-glare screen.
  • AMD Radeon Graphics.

And when will the HP Dev One be available? Still not known. Yes it is known that his price will be 1099$, about €1040 to change if you don't have to add VAT or do other calculations. Having upgraded my laptop a little over a month ago, and knowing the price of some components, I don't think that with everything it comes with, with the 1TB in the fastest SSD format, it is one of the worst priced options, always keeping in mind Keep in mind that there are cheaper alternatives if you don't need as much.

As for the keyboard, something very important to keep in mind, nothing, nothing is known. It is certain that on the date of its release there will be an option with english keyboard, but seeing that in the configuration of other models there is no option to choose a keyboard, I would dare to swear that it will not be worth it for non-English speakers.

Be that as it may, the news is that System76 has opened up a bit, and HP will start selling Pop!_OS computers very soon.

Watching Netflix (better with Kodi), keeping accounts, or using spreadsheets or databases… is much better done with GNU/Linux.

Not only does Netflix use GNU/Linux to serve their videos, serious accounting programs use GNU/Linux servers, and LibreOffice calc is a much better spreadsheet than MS Excel, and there are plenty of other options.

That tagline in an anti GNU/Linux environment would be understandable, in one that claims to be pro GNU/Linux – and it's not the first time I've read it
    – now that even games made for MS WOS run better on GNU/Linux, and a nice cheap AMD APU is about to come out a little better than the one that equips the Steam Deck for laptops and desktop cases –
doesn't sound like a “knowledgeable” but more like an anti GNU/Linux fanboy forced to write in this medium.
