How to shorten the life of cookies in Mozilla Firefox

Firefox

Cookies are files that the web browser has or that it generates after visiting web pages that usually create quite a few problems for users. The use of cookies improves navigation but also opens security gaps and worsens the performance of the web browser.

Default, all web browsers allow cookies to remain on our computer for years unless the creator of the website indicates otherwise. We can modify this lifetime in Mozilla Firefox and make these files no longer exist for weeks or days, thus balancing between the browsing experience and the performance of the web browser.

To make this modification, we must first open Mozilla Firefox. This time we will not go to any tab or configuration window but we will write these words "about: config" in the address bar, press enter and a list with various entries and values will appear.

Now we have to find the next entry network.cookie.lifetime. We will find several entries that are similar. We will go to the entry that is equal to this: «network.cookie.lifetimePolicy«. We must change the value indicated in this string, thus limiting the number of days that the cookie will be stored by Mozilla Firefox. In this case we will do it for the number «3». This value will reduce the maximum value of the cookie from years to 90 days. A value more than acceptable to many.

If, on the other hand, we want the lifetime value of cookies to be, our Mozilla Firefox removes it after a certain number of days, we have to modify the string "network.cookie.lifetime.days", indicating a low value and then Mozilla Firefox will delete the cookies that we have after the indicated days.

If we browse a little, the browsing experience will get worse because we will have to insert passwords, users, etc ... But if we browse a lot, this little trick can be interesting to maintain the performance and security of our web browser.
