The soccer world cup has begun and the computer world has not been immune to it. The Internet is full of information about players, results, matches, memes, etc ... But for many such a thing is not accessible since they do not use or do not like to navigate to get certain information.
Fortunately the developers have thought of everything and They have created various ways for our Gnu / Linux distro to offer us information about the Soccer World Cup without the need to open a browser window.
Desktop Applet
Thanks to developer El Atareao we an applet for Gnome that will allow us to know the results of the Soccer World Cup with just a click on the applet that we will have in the top bar of the desktop. The applet is built with javascript and uses an API that actually provides the information. Thus, from time to time the applet makes inquiries to the API and the information returned is displayed in the applet. This applet is called World Cup Indicator. We can get it through the official website of the Gnome Project extensions or through the repository Atareao's Github.
Terminal application
The second method is less visual but just as fast. Exists a program that we can use with the command terminal and it will show us in a simple way the results of the matches. The application is called wowcup and it is available for all distributions. To install it we have to execute the following in the command terminal:
npm install -g wowcup
We may not have npm installed in our distribution, for which we have to install this technology first and then execute the previous command. For the installation of NPM we have to follow this guide.
The process is simple and fast, but less visual than the El Atareao applet. In any case, both methods serve to be informed of the Soccer World Cup without consulting Internet pages.
