How to install the Gnome extensions

gnome

The famous Gnome desktop is increasingly present in more Gnu / Linux distributions. Such is its fame that even Ubuntu has stopped developing its desktop to replace it with Gnome. The latest versions of Gnome allow us to extend its functions thanks to our own or third-party extensions, something that has made Gnome popular with many users of the penguin operating system.

However the ease with which Gnome functions are extended is not the same as how these extensions are installed. The process of installing Gnome extensions is complicated, at least for novice users and for the first time, but I have to confess that once we go through the first time, the rest of the time it is something simple and quite simple, although I do not know perform the same steps as the first time.

First we have to install the tool that will help us manage the extensions from Gnome. Gnome Tweak Tool or also known as Tweaks will be the tool in charge of this task. To do this we install it by typing the following in the terminal:

sudo apt-get install gnome-tweaks-tool

All the Gnome extensions can be installed from the web browser, which facilitates the process a posteriori but if we do not know, the first access will be difficult. Gnome has configured it so that Mozilla Firefox users only need A plugin for your browser, if we use Google Chrome, we have to first install the following package and then install this one Plugin:

sudo apt-get install chrome-gnome-shell

And now, to install the Gnome extensions, we just have to go to the official website, Select the version of Gnome that we have and press the Add button. The browser will ask us if we want to add it, click yes and we already have the extension installed. If we want to disable the extension, we just have to go to Tweaks, find the extension and uninstall the extension.

This installation not only applies to Debian-based distributions but to all Gnu / Linux distributions, in each case you will have to change APT-GET commands to the distribution software manager what do we use.
