It is increasingly common to create code files and scripts that automate the most common tasks that we perform. For this creation a code editor is needed that allows us to create the files and save them in the appropriate format. In Debian 9 we have the Vim and Gedit tools, but sometimes, a more powerful or complete code editor is needed.
Among the most famous and popular code editors is Atom, an editor that aspires to be an IDE and that we can install and use in Debian without the need to shell out any money.
Atom is a code editor that can be connected to GitHub
Installing Atom in any version of Debian is relatively easy because in the official Atom website we can find the program in Deb format or in rpm format. In this case we will choose the program in deb format. Once we have downloaded the package, we open a terminal in the folder where the package is and we write the following:
sudo dpkg -i atom-amd64.deb
This will install the Atom code editor on our operating system. But We will not find it in Spanish but in English. A problem for those who do not know the language of Shakespeare although it can be solved quickly. To do this we just have to go to Packages -> Settings View and select the option "Install Packages / themes". The following window will appear:
In the Install Packages option we will look for the package atom-i18n and we will install it. After installation, we go to Settings within the package and change English to Spanish (es), restart the code editor and we will have Atom in Spanish. Via Install Packages we can not only change the language of the code editor but we can also install add-ons and new functions or themes for customizing the program.
Thank you. I gave up putting it in Spanish a long time ago because it didn't seem easy, and you have shown that it was very easy.
Hello,
it gives me the following error when looking for the package: unable to get local issuer certificate
Do you know how to fix it?
Thank you, greetings.
Hello,
I have followed several installation procedures including yours, and I don't know why, atom doesn't appear with a menu bar etc. just a context menu.
I do not understand what happens
Another thing, like several editors, the only one that allows printing is xed but with xed you can work in a single window.
