A Japanese hacker has launched in on the web a set of software and instructions that make the Nintendo Classic Mini may have Ubuntu and the Linux Kernel quickly and with just a serial cable that connects to the game console. Apparently the hacker via a serial-USB cable has managed to get into boot and overwrite it in order to install a linux kernel compiled for the platform and then install a version of Ubuntu for SBC boards that makes the Nintendo Classic Mini a fully functional Gnu / Linux system. This is quite expensive but the satisfaction of saying that you have been the first to hack this renewed game console is worth it.
Unfortunately this will take time to reproduce since the instructions although they are public, they are written in japanese And it is not a language that is widely spoken in the United States and Europe, and you have to think that Nintendo NES Classic Mini units are limited, that is, we can load the game console and then run out of the original copy of the NES.
