A few hours ago launched GNOME 3.38.6, another maintenance update that, I think unfortunately for Ubuntu users, is relatively good news because their desktop keeps improving, but I think many would have preferred not to get to this and have started using GNOME 40 alongside an Ubuntu 21.04 who has not made the leap.
It is a maintenance update, and that means it doesn't come with featured features. It does include improvements, and the best thing that can happen to us in these cases is that one of them fixes an annoying bug that we have been experiencing for weeks. Highlights of GNOME 3.38.6
- Epiphany can now launch user-activated external URLs.
- File Roller can skip files with symlinks.
- Fixed excessive CPU consumption in Gedit that could occur when a file with content was deleted from the file explorer plugin. On the other hand, it now uses the current document path when opening a new file to correct a regression.

The new version should hit Linux distributions running GNOME 3.38 soon, including the previously mentioned Hirsute Hippo. GNOME 3.38 will still be supported for a few months, but all they release will be versions to correct bugs. The good news is in GNOME 40.
