Some of us have been looking forward to v3.0 of the "GNU Image Manipulation Program" for some time now. It will introduce important changes, such as the "store" of accessories and that it will be based on GTK 3 (now that we are already on 4...), but to be able to use it in the form of a stable version there are still months left. Meanwhile, and after previous maintenance update, its developer team announced last night GIMP 2.10.32, a natural evolution of what we're already using in 2.10.30.
Among the latests Moravia's compositions most outstanding news, GIMP 2.10.32 introduces support for importing 8-bit and 16-bit TIFF files in CMYK(A), in addition to the BigTIFF format, for both import and export. What you have below is a summary of what they have published in the release note.
GIMP 2.10.32 Highlights
- Support for the import of TIFF files of 8 and 16 bits in CMYK/A).
- Support for importing and exporting BigTIFF format files. BigTIFF is an evolution of the original TIFF and allows files larger than 4GB to use the internal 64bit offset.
- Support for the JPEG XL format has also been introduced. It was something that was expected for v3.0, but they have brought it to this version. Now it will no longer be necessary to use a third-party plugin to manage these types of files.
- Ability to vertically flip DDS images when exporting.
- Improvements in metadata management, especially in the PSD format.
- Several improvements in the import of XFC code.
- Improvements in the management of BMP, DICOM, EPS, RAW, TGA and WebP formats.
- The text tool supports glyphs.
- Visual improvements that will be noticeable in the general theme and icons.
- Improved the capture tool in Windows.
