Flowblade Movie Editor, an excellent video editor for Linux

flowblade

Flowblade Movie Editor is free and open source video editing software for Linux. flowblade employs a movie-style insert edit model as workflow with a design approach similar to that of Avid.

In the insert edit, clips are usually placed snugly after other clips when inserted into the timeline. Edits are optimized by adjusting the In and Out points of clips or by cutting and removing parts of clips.

Flowblade builds most of its functionality using the MLT media framework. Other MLT video editors are KDEnlive and Shotcut.

Other libraries used include the Frei0r and LADSPA effects.

About Flowblade

flowblade supports all formats supported by FFmpeg or libav (such as QuickTime, AVI, WMV, MPEG and Flash Video among others) and also supports 4: 3 and 16: 9 aspect ratios for PAL, NTSC and various HD.

The editor provides tools for trimming clips with individual frame precision, processing them with filters and multi-level image design for embedding in video.

You can arbitrarily determine the order of application of the tools and adjust the behavior of the timeline.

Among its main characteristics we find:

  • Editing with move tools, trim tools, methods for adding clips to the timeline, and drag-and-drop functionality.
  • Image composition with composers and animation ability to blend, zoom, move and rotate.
  • Image and audio filtering with more than 50 image filters and more than 30 audio filters.
  • Supported editable media types include the most common video and audio formats, based on installed MLT / FFMPEG codecs, bitmaps and vector graphics, and numbered frame sequences.
  • Built-in title tool.
  • G'MIC Effects Tool
  • Unlimited keyframes for animatable clip attributes.
  • The output encoding can be done for the most common video and audio formats.

About the new version of Flowblade 2.0

The launch of the new version of Flowblade 2.0, which comes with several bug fixes and new features.

The release of Flowblade 2.0 is notable for a complete overhaul of the organization of the video editing process and a radical redesign of the interface.

The editing process on the timeline has become much more customizable and understandable.

Two typical options are proposed for editing process presets: a standard set based on the Move tool and a movie style edit set based on the Insert tool.

Editing capabilities have been expanded for keyframes.

New tools (Keyframe, Multitrim, Cut, Ripple Trim) were added and many of the old ones expanded. A new layout theme has been proposed and the interface layout based on three panels has been implemented.

Of the other characteristics that can be highlighted we find:

  • 11 editing tools, 9 of which are included in the basic working set.
  • 4 methods of inserting, replacing and attaching clips on the timeline.
  • The ability to place clips on the timeline in Drag and Drop mode.
  • Added the ability to attach clips and image comps to other master clips.
  • The ability to work simultaneously with 9 combined video and audio tracks.
  • Means for adjusting colors and changing sound parameters.
  • Support for combining and mixing images and sound.
  • 10 composition modes. Keyframe animation tools that allow you to mix, scale, move, and rotate the original video.
  • 19 blending modes to insert images into video.
  • More than 40 templates to replace images.
  • 50 image filters that allow you to adjust colors, apply effects, blur, manipulate transparency, freeze the frame, create the illusion of movement, and more.
