Firefox 87 adds an option to its inspector that allows us to switch between light and dark mode if the web allows it.

DuckDuckGo in dark mode in Firefox 87

Doing the first tests I thought "hum ... they have already forgotten about Linux users", but no. The point is that Firefox 87 came with a novelty that had not been mentioned in the list of changes, but because it is something more intended for developers, although it is something that we can use without danger from the inspector. The bad thing if we want to use it often is that it does not work if we close the options to inspect.

The novelty I am talking about allows us switch between light and dark modes of web pages. It is important to mention that it only works on web pages that have both modes available and activated and that, for example, we cannot use it to see the dark version in which Google is working for its search engine, simply because it is not activated. On the other hand, if a website includes the option under a button or switch, as is the case with the blog about Apple 9to5mac, it will not work either.

Firefox 87 lets us choose between day and night

To test this function we just have to right click on a web page, open the inspector and click on the sun or the moon. Among the pages that are known to work we have the search engine DuckDuckGoThat of MacRumorsThat of Start Page or YouTube. In some cases we can even go in and directly put the dark theme if we have chosen the moon. The bad thing, as we have mentioned, is that if we close the inspector everything returns to normal. One solution, or rather a fix, is to slide the checker so that it stays at the bottom like a bar.

Firefox 87 arrived yesterday with security related news and an important absence, that of the support for the AVIF image decoder.
