Firefox 76.0.1 released to fix only a couple of bugs

Firefox 76.0.1

They haven't made much noise, and I actually found out when I published the article about EndeavorOS 2020.05.08, but Mozilla launched last Friday, May 8 Firefox 76.0.1. This release is quite a surprise because they have not fixed any major security flaws and the first stable version of this series He's not with us for a week. Be that as it may, the company famous for developing the fox browser will have its reasons for having launched this version and it has done so.

In total, Firefox 76.0.1 has fixed two bugs, as we read in the release note: In the first one they tell us that a bug that caused some add-ons such as Amazon Assistant to see multiple onConnects events, which was a "harmful functionality", has been corrected. The second bug only affected 32-bit Windows systems with some NVIDIA drivers installed and caused a crash.

Firefox 76.0.1 comes as a surprise with very few changes

On the other hand, they have also introduced other changes, but these already for developers, as reflected in link provided in the Firefox 76.0.1 release note. Among them we have new APIs, like one that makes Firefox support default audio worklets, with support for AudioContext.audioWorklet, which allows us to use the AudioWorkletProcessor and AudioWorkletNode interfaces to process audio in real time from the main thread. Firefox 76.0.1 also supports the CSS4 color system, among other things mentioned in the link above.

Considering that this is a maintenance release, we cannot know when Mozilla will release a supposed v76.0.2 of its browser, but we do know that Firefox 77 will be officially launched on June 2. At the moment, the only news confirmed by Firefox in that version is one that reads «The browser.urlbar.oneOffSearches preference has been removed. To hide the one-off buttons uncheck search engines on the about page: preferences # search«.
