Firefox 66.0.2 arrives to fix various web compatibilities

Firefox 66.0.2

Last Saturday, Mozilla released Firefox 66.0.1. This version fixed two bugs that the company had labeled as serious. The update was available for Windows and macOS from the same application or by downloading the binaries for Linux, so we were waiting for it for this Monday. That launch did not come and yesterday, when we were already impatient, appeared in the APT Firefox 66.0.2 repositories, a more advanced version that includes a couple more fixes.

It is a bit surprising that, speaking of the APT version, Mozilla skipped Firefox 66.0.1 considering that they were the ones who worried us by labeling the two bugs found in the Pwn2Own as serious, but they probably thought: «Well, why upload a version today if in 2-3 days they will have a new one that fixes everything? ». And so it has been. The latest version fixes two bugs related to unexpected shutdowns and various incompatibilities with web content. You have the details below.

Firefox 66.0.2 now available in APT repositories

The list of changes in this new version is reduced to three, if we take into account that the second includes two:

  • Fixed web compatibility issues with Office 365, iCloud, and IBM WebMail caused by recent changes to handle keyboard events (Bug 1538966).
  • Fixed two issues that caused unexpected shutdowns (bug 1521370, bug 1539118).

If you are using the Snap version, I make a personal recommendation: go back to the APT version. Canonical has made available to developers everything they need, but Mozilla is not doing what it should. By this I mean that it is not delivering the updates so that we can install them from Firefox, but where the update should appear it only appears a link so that we download it and add the files manually.

La most up-to-date Snap version is still the "old" v65.0.2-1, so we can not enjoy the new lock that prevents multimedia content from playing automatically (disabled by default) or the best performance, especially on computers that do not have enough RAM.

In any case, we already have a new version of Firefox and we no longer have to worry about the problems mentioned in this post.
