Firefox 58 will support progressive web applications and the FLAC codec

Firefox

No doubt Firefox is growing by leaps and bounds and above all they have accelerated the pace for each new version, many of themusers have been fascinated with its version 57 BEST known as Quantum.

Among the plans that the Firefox development team has in the new version they are working on They have released some of the most important aspects that will be fixed in their next release.

In this new version as It had already been planned before, it was the support for progressive web applicationsFor those who still know this concept, I will talk a little about it.

The PWA or as I mentioned progressive web applications are applications created with frameworks with responsive design, the objective point of these PWAs is to have an application that can work in the most similar way than a native one.

The idea it conveys this definition is:

  • That it has the highest possible performance on mobiles and that it charges almost instantaneously
  • A good interface that looks as close as possible to a native one
  • The ability to work offline
  • Be able to send notifications to users, like a native app

On the other hand, the other news we have for Firefox 58 is browser accounting with FLAC audio codec.

Although from a personal point of view the latter must have happened for quite some time, with the arrival of streaming services, the compatibility of browsers with various audio and video codecs must be up to date.

At the moment we can get this new version of Firefox in its beta version, it is expected that it will be polished and stable until next year so we are really weeks away from its launch.

Without further ado, we are waiting for what the development team has planned for the direction of the browser.
