Firefox 113 improves its Picture-in-Picture and address bar, but the DEB version is dropped

Firefox 113

Last April, when v113 of Mozilla's browser entered the beta channel, we could see that there was a DEB version available on their servers. Days later, this version disappeared, and we couldn't find out why. Subsequent revisions were also only as tarball, which made us fear the worst (in a manner of speaking). Today the launch of Firefox 113, and it can be confirmed that that version in the native package for Debian cannot be downloaded.

But it is not worth talking too much about the absences, but about the inclusions. Firefox 113 has introduced important improvements, such as the Picture-in-Picture more versatile or that the address bar will show better results. Also, support for some CSS properties has been improved. The list of news is what you have below.

What's new in Firefox 113

  • Picture-in-Picture has received improvements. It now supports rewinding, checking the duration of the video and quickly switching to full screen mode.
  • In the address bar, you can now always see your web search terms and refine them while viewing the results. In addition, a new results menu has been added to make it easier to remove results from history and dismiss sponsored posts from Firefox Suggest.
  • Private windows now further protect users by blocking third-party cookies and content tracker storage.
  • Passwords automatically generated by the browser now include special characters, which will give us stronger passwords by default.
  • New redesigned accessibility engine that significantly improves browser speed, responsiveness, and stability when used with screen readers, as well as other accessibility software; East Asian input methods; single sign-on software for businesses; and other improvements in the accessibility framework.
  • When importing bookmarks from Safari and Chrome, the favicons will also be imported by default for easy identification.
  • Firefox 113 supports the AV1 format for images containing animations, called AVIS, and improves support for AVIF.
  • The Windows GPU sandbox that was first included in Firefox version 110 has been strengthened to increase the security benefits it provides.
  • There was a request that was made 13 years ago, that of being able to drag and drop files from Microsoft Outlook. In Firefox 113 it is already possible.
  • macOS users can now access the Services sub-menu directly from the context menu.
  • On Windows, the elastic hover effect is enabled by default. When scrolling with two fingers on the trackpad or touchscreen, you will now see a bounce animation when you scroll past the edge of a scroll container.
  • Firefox is now also available in the Tajik (tg) language.
  • The mozRTCPeerConnection, mozRTCIceCandidate, and mozRTCSessionDescription WebRTC interfaces have been removed. Websites should use the unprefixed versions instead.
  • Module scripts can now import other ES module scripts into work items.
  • Firefox 113 includes new features related to CSS, including support for color specifications such as the lab(), lch, oklab(), oklch, and color() functions, and media query scripting.
  • Added support for several functions related to WebRTC to improve interoperability (although the RAE does not include that word).
  • Support for the forced-color-adjust property, allowing authors to exclude an element from color changes in forced-color mode to improve readability when automatically chosen contrasting colors are not ideal.
  • Various improvements to the find files feature of the debugger.
  • Nicer printing of inline scripts in HTML files and column breakpoints in beautifully printed fonts.
  • It is now possible to overwrite a JavaScript file in the debugger.
  • Various security improvements.

Firefox 113 can now be downloaded from your official website. In the next few hours the packages will be updated on most Linux distributions (not using the ESR version), and so should the flatpak and snap packages. About the DEB package... maybe in Firefox 114.
