Fedora IoT Edition, a very close reality for lovers of the Internet of Things

The Internet of Things has become very popular thanks to the interest of large technology companies and projects such as smart cities. This has made Gnu / Linux even more popular and projects that used Windows switch to using Gnu / Linux.

However, Gnu / Linux based operating systems are rather few and the vast majority are based on or use Ubuntu Core IoT. But little by little this is changing and other distributions are betting on IoT such as the Fedora project.

Recently a user requested create an official flavor or spin of Fedora destined for the IoT world, user nullr0ute thought he was going to be rejected but surprisingly saw his request approved and projected for the next Fedora 29 release.

Fedora IoT Edition will be compatible with the most famous Free Hardware

This approval has been a surprise although something to expect due to the success of the IoT. Although really Fedora IoT Edition will not be just another spin but it will be a project that will start from scratch and that it will try to offer the best of Fedora to the hardware world. This means that we will not have a powerful desktop like any of the other Fedora spins, but we will have a "smart connection" with that object or device.

Fedora IoT Edition will be a new project that will be distributed as if it were a spin, but this does not mean that do not have work to do or risk being delayed by a technical problem. In any case, it seems that Fedora IoT Edition will be a near reality and something that will be present on boards like Arduino or Raspberry Pi, although Currently, the Free Hardware that will be compatible with said distribution is not known, one of the tasks that are pending to be carried out. A new official flavor for our IoT projects and a serious competitor to other operating systems such as Windows 10 IoT or Ubuntu Core IoT.
